1. Overview
At the C2 mastery level, stylistic inversion moves beyond basic negative adverbs to fronting adverbials of place, direction, and participle phrases for dramatic narrative effect or elevated formal prose.

2. Fronting Adverbials of Place and Direction
Placing prepositional phrases or directional adverbs at the head of a clause creates immediate atmospheric focus:
- Normal: A sprawling server rack stood in the corner of the dark room.
- Inverted: **In the corner of the dark room stood** a sprawling server rack.
- Normal: The price chart plunged dramatically downward.
- Inverted: **Down plunged** the price chart as panic set in.

3. Fronting Present and Past Participles
- Normal: A detailed project specification lay upon the mahogany desk.
- Inverted: **Lying upon the mahogany desk lay** a detailed project specification.
