Intermediate Listening Comprehension

Bridge the gap between basic dialogues and native speed. Train your ear for natural speech reductions, multi-speaker interviews, professional contexts, and editorial opinions.

1. Podcasts, Interviews & Talk Shows

Navigate unscripted back-and-forth dialogue where speakers interrupt each other, change topics fluidly, and use conversational fillers.

Module B1

Audio Sample: Discussing Career Changes

B1 Level

Listen for main arguments and supporting personal anecdotes without getting bogged down by minor vocabulary gaps.

Host: "What made you finally take the leap into entrepreneurship?"

Guest: "Well, to be completely honest, I hit a ceiling at my old corporate job..."

Listening for Attitude & Opinion

Strategy

At B2, speakers rarely state their opinions flatly. They use modal verbs, hedging phrases, and tone shifts to express tentative agreement or subtle skepticism.

Key phrases: "I'm inclined to agree, but...", "That's debatable given the recent statistics."

2. Decoding Connected Speech & Reductions

Native speakers blend words together. Learn why "What do you want to do?" sounds like "Whadya wanna do?"

Module B2
Written Form (Standard) Spoken Form (Reduction) Phonetic Rule / Explanation
"going to" "gonna" Vowel reduction and unstressed syllable contraction.
"did you" "didja" Palatalization: /d/ + /j/ merges into /dʒ/.
"cup of tea" "cuppa tea" Elision of the prepositional /v/ sound in rapid speech.

3. Professional Meetings & Group Discussions

Follow multi-person conference calls, project updates, negotiation tactics, and formal corporate decision-making.

Module B2
Project Updates

Focus: Tracking deadlines, deliverables, and resource allocation bottlenecks.

Polite Interruption

Focus: Recognizing formulas like "If I may jump in here..." or "Just to build on that point..."

Problem Solving

Focus: Identifying suggested alternatives and consensus-building statements.
